And while technology has become a critical tool in our lives, it has also been linked to emotional and health risks, including the tendency to sit instead of being physically active, sleeping problems, social isolation, and bullying. As an early childhood education provider, we’re as concerned as you are about how much screen time children have and how they use that time. Children are developing the critical-thinking skills they need to make good lifestyle choices, including safe digital choices. We want children to become active creators, rather than passive consumers, of technology. We want them to use technology as a tool to learn, explore the world, and build community. And, most importantly, we want our children to be safe.

Conflict is a natural part of living and working with other persons. Children need to experience conflict so that they have opportunities to learn the skills necessary to resolve real life problems. Teaching children to solve problems increases their ability to deal with conflict. Before children can solve problems, they must be able to use words to express their anger and frustration. Be sure they have the skills needed to solve problems before expecting them to do so.
